QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
What are some things I can do to prepare my child for kindergarten?

-
Read daily with your child and discuss what you read. Connect it to daily experience. If reading a book about animals, relate it to your last visit to the zoo.
-
Have an active social life. Give your child lots of opportunities to play with others and practice sharing and social skills.
-
Encourage your child’s independence by giving them chores around the house; have them select their clothes, dress themselves, and help them make their own snack.
-
Help your child ‘write’ letters to friends and family members. You can begin by tracing letters on paper or in the sandbox. Graduate to pencil and paper writing and have it available to work with.
-
Play sound games including rhyming words, making up silly songs and repeating tongue twisters.
-
Talk to your child about kindergarten and what their day will be like, visit the school if possible and try to set up a play date with future classmates. Encourage your child to talk to you about kindergarten as well.

DEAR KINDER FAMILIES,

-
Have your child understand the meaning of rules. Rules exist to keep us safe! Rules are always positive.
-
Encourage your child to come to me with anything they might need throughout the day. Remind them to ask twice if they did not understand or if they did not receive the support they needed from me.
-
Help your child connect with me by letting them know that they are in a safe environment, with someone they can trust.
-
Build a partnership with me, and learn who I am so you can also build trust knowing that your child is in the best hands.
-
Communicate with me with questions, concerns, and ideas, and share your child's personality so I can better understand your child's needs. I love hearing about how they are as a little person!
-
Learn how to navigate through the Public School system. Keep in mind that as much as I love to help you, there are separate entities and channels you must learn to follow. I want you to receive the correct answer every time so going to the source of information is always the best practice.

ABOUT MS. LACHANCE
My beautiful children, Virginia 27, Andrew 18, and Clarissa 24, and my dog, Lily, age 7!
They were in Kindergarten once, and they have grown to be independent, kind, and successful people! I will always be grateful to their teachers for taking the time to get to know them, for dedicating themselves to their academic growth, for showing them kindness, and love, and for making a personal connection with my children. Their influence on my children's lives taught them to love books, enjoy writing and become critical thinkers. They also contributed to their love and appreciation for the fine arts, music, dance, and theatre. Being a teacher is the most rewarding, and influential profession in my opinion. Teachers can make a difference in a child's life that contribute to the person they will become. I love being a teacher, and it is with gratitude in my heart and inspiration from my own children's teachers, rest assured that your child will have my full dedication, attention, and care during their very first year in my kindergarten classroom.
Thank you for sharing your child with me!
